Who counts as a family member
Count yourself, your spouse or common-law partner, your dependent children and your partner's dependent children — even if they're Canadian citizens or PRs, or not coming with you.
Who doesn't need proof of funds
- Candidates invited under the Canadian Experience Class.
- Candidates who are authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer — even under FSW or FST.
IRCC notes its system currently asks everyone for a proof-of-funds document; if you're exempt you upload a letter explaining why.
What IRCC accepts as proof
Official letters from each bank or financial institution where you hold funds, on letterhead, with the institution's contact details and your name. The money must be available when you apply and when the permanent resident visa is issued. IRCC updates the amounts every year based on 50% of the low income cut-off.
