How the CRS works after November 3, 2026
The Comprehensive Ranking System ranks every profile in the Express Entry pool. Since November 3, 2026, IRCC scores it out of 1,270 points (it was 1,200 before). On November 3, 2026, IRCC changed how Canadian work experience and job offers are scored. The new Labour Market Integration factor (maximum 150 points) gives you whichever is higher:
- Canadian work experience: the same work-length points as before (35–80) plus 20, 40 or 70 extra points if you have at least 12 months of qualifying Canadian work in an eligible high-wage occupation.
- A qualifying job offer: 100, 70 or 50 points for an offer in a level 1, 2 or 3 high-wage occupation. No LMIA is required.
Skill transferability is unchanged and still uses your total Canadian work length. Read the full breakdown in our guide to the November 2026 CRS changes.

Ways people commonly raise their score
- Retaking a language test — moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all four abilities can add 32 core points plus up to 50 in skill transferability.
- Learning French — NCLC 7 in all four abilities adds 25–50 additional points and makes you eligible for French-language rounds.
- Gaining more Canadian work experience, especially in a high-wage NOC.
- Getting an Educational Credential Assessment for every degree you hold.
- Applying to a provincial nominee program.

Frequently asked questions
How is the CRS score calculated in 2026?+
Your CRS score (out of 1,270 under the November 3, 2026 rules; 1,200 before) adds up core human capital factors (age, education, language), spouse factors, skill transferability (up to 100), the new Labour Market Integration factor (up to 150, from November 3, 2026) and additional points such as a provincial nomination (600), French skills (up to 50), Canadian study (up to 30) and a sibling in Canada (15).
What is the Labour Market Integration factor?+
From November 3, 2026, IRCC replaced the Canadian work experience core factor with a Labour Market Integration factor. You get the higher of: (a) Canadian work-length points (up to 80) plus up to 70 points for 12+ months of work in a high-wage occupation, or (b) points for a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation (50, 70 or 100). You can't receive both.
Do I still need an LMIA for job offer points?+
No. As of November 3, 2026, IRCC says a Labour Market Impact Assessment is no longer required for a job offer to count, and having one gives no extra points. The job must be in an eligible high-wage occupation to earn CRS points, and an officer still assesses whether the offer is genuine.
Is this the same as IRCC's official CRS tool?+
No. This is an independent calculator built from IRCC's published criteria. Your official score is the one shown in your Express Entry profile. IRCC also publishes its own tool on canada.ca.
Will IRCC recalculate my existing profile?+
IRCC says the system will recalculate existing profiles when the changes take effect, which could take up to two weeks, and invitation rounds are paused during that time.
What CRS score do I need for an invitation?+
There's no fixed number. Each round sets its own cut-off based on the pool and the round type. Recent Canadian Experience Class rounds have been around 510–520, French-language rounds around 380–440, and PNP rounds roughly 700–800 (they include the 600 nomination points).
