After you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence. This is a general planning checklist — IRCC generates your personal document list in your account, and that list is what counts.
Commonly requested documents
- Passport or travel document
- Language test results (the same results used in your profile)
- Educational Credential Assessment for foreign education, and Canadian diplomas if claimed
- Reference letters for every period of work experience you claimed
- Police certificates from each country where you stayed 6+ months in a row in the last 10 years since age 18 (not counting time in Canada) — see police certificates and medicals
- Medical exam by an IRCC panel physician
- Proof of funds, unless you're exempt (for example, applying under CEC or with a valid job offer while authorized to work in Canada)
- Job offer documents and provincial nomination, if claimed
- Civil status documents (marriage certificate, birth certificates for children, etc.)
- Digital photos and the application fees
Tips
- Start police certificates early — some countries take weeks.
- Make sure every claim in your profile (work dates, NOC, language scores) matches your documents exactly.
- If something in your profile was wrong, get professional advice before submitting.
